6. Ajijic
Day 19. Checking the weather in the morning and there is a huge storm south of PVR. Heading inland instead. It was already humid and yucky at 8 in the morning. I got out of PVR as quickly as I could and was heading for the hills. I took a secondary road so it should be fun. Dozens of small settlements with insane numbers of topas (speed bumps). But you have to give it to them, they are VERY effective. The road starts climbing right away and burry itself in very thick jungle. Not too much traffic and non stop windy road. The road is mostly covered above with vegetation making it cooler then on an open highway. The highest point reaches almost 2,000m and it is noticeably cooler then at the coast. It was civilized 26˚C most of the day. The ride was fantastic, carving it for 150 km. Tiring, though. Physically and mentally. There were quite a bit of local motorcycle riders on the road today. It is Sunday, so everybody wants to have fun. 3 guys on large KTM 1290 caught up with me. I let them pass and pinned it behind them. They are locals, they should know the road, hopefully. It was so much fun. Finally some of my stable of 136 horses woke up. They got a really good workout.
It was an easy ride at the end. Mostly fields growing cacti for tequila. My destination today, Ajijic is on is the north shore of Lago de Chapala. It is a string of towns one leading into another. I found my hotel with no problems and checked in. I park my bike in the reception as it is a norm down here. The owner speak perfect English and she’s been around the world, even in Prague. My room is basic but with everything I need. No AC but I don’t need it either. Most of the nights I turn it off anyway. My bed is so comfy that fall asleep right away. I guess I was tired…
I went to explore the local town after I woke up. Very cute, small and compact. Many tourists, local and foreign. It looks like there is quite a large expat community here. The town itself is very artsy. Every second house has a mural on its side. Very cool. I walked up and down the boardwalk, ate some food and bought few Coronas to help me edit the pictures.
My hotel for tomorrow is booked already. If everything will be as I hope, the next town will be pretty cool.
Stay tuned …
