7. Bike service in Sandia BMW, Albuquerque, NM

I am glad to leave Cortez. Even though they have a decent restaurant in town with beer and interesting PSA 🤭. I left fairly early as I wanted to get to Albuquerque (ABQ) early enough to reach the local BMW dealer. The ride was unimpressed as per norm now. It was getting a bit nicer closer to ABQ. Rolling hills and pine forest were nice on the eyes. But the heat! I know I am like broken record here, but …

Finding Sandia BMW Motorrad was easy as it sits right off the Interstate I-25. I managed to pulled in just before noon. Nice and big dealership combines BMW cars and motorcycles and also Mini dealer. I got in and went straight to the service department. I was greeted by the Service Department manager Leigh Chapman and the Parts manager Reymundo. I didn’t have an appointment so I wasn’t expecting much. A “maybe tomorrow, if we have the time” is what would normally happen. When I explained my situation, Leigh ask me when I want to have the service done. “What’s my options?” was my reply, expecting a delay or a Plan B, which was a BMW dealer in San Antonio, more than 1,000km away. To to my utter disbelieve Leigh asked me “what about now?” Now is fine, I started to stutter as couldn’t believe my ears. “There is a lounge upstairs and there is also coffee and water and we’ll get you when we are done”. Wow. You have to understand that this is not normal that’s why I was so flustered. So off I go upstairs, chilling and drinking coffee. Awesome. Then I walked around the store and start talking to strangers as I often do. You always (mostly) meet some very interesting people on the road. I’ve had a very interesting conversation with a local policeman who was waiting for his bike. We shared our views on dealing with public and crime. Very cool.

And before you know it, the bike was ready. New tires, engine oil and filter and fault code all negative. Good news. Also Raymundo was big help answering all my questions about crossing to and riding in Mexico. This was a prefect visit to the dealership, as good as it can get. Both, Leigh and Raymundo went above and beyond my expectations and I couldn’t thank them enough. They not only sell and fix your bikes but make sure that you have fun riding it. And that’s very much appreciated. Thank you guys, again! The next time you are in ABQ, don’t forget to visit them.

My hotel was just 5’ from the dealer, easy to find. I got an advice to lock the door and don’t hang out past sunset as I am “on the other side of the tracks”. Good enough for me and early night as well. AWESOME day!
