12. Day “Off”

Day 26 Day “off” refers only to riding. I had only two days off in the last 25 days. I need to talk to crew sched … I don’t think it is legal 🤭. Anyway, it was nice to sleep in and not to pack in the morning. But I was up early anyway, but it all is only in the head. I had a good night sleep even though I was dreaming about crossing the border 🙄. Go figure …

It is time to hit the beach. It was stinking hot at 9 a.m. already. And muggy. A nice cup of mocha and an empanada for breakfast on the beach. Living pretty rough here … I didn’t think I’d be taking any serious pictures at this time of the day. Oh well, I still have my iPhone with me. The beach front is full of hotels and restaurants. There are surprisingly lot of people here considering it is summer. Many gringos, I hear mostly British and Z Germans. Lots of locals. I walked the beach up and down and I was drenched in sweat. Luckily, there is a remedy for that. Off I go for a swim. Well, not exactly a swim as waves are huge and the rip current is very strong. After only a few minutes I was 100m off where I’ve started. And the water is warm. So much for a cool down …

Back to my hotel to do some “flight planning”. I have 3 more days in Mexico and I have some decisions to make. I still don’t know which border crossing I will take. Mañana …

Afternoon beach walk was even hotter than the morning one. I have my big Nikon with me to try some new settings I didn’t have time to check before. At the end of the beach, there was a serious photo shoot. A photographer, his assistant, external lights, the whole works. The object was a young lady celebrating a quinceañera. Her parents were there as well so I asked them for permission to take some photos of her. Everybody was OK with it so I took a few. And they were better then the “official” one taken by the pro. They liked them so much so I email them some of them. Cool start of the afternoon.

The surf was up and there were many surfers trying to catch their waves. The lens I am using is a good one but not the best for fast moving action. I’ve tried to see what I can do with the lens I have anyway. The new setting worked really well. But you go through LOTS of pictures very fast. My settings were set to take 10fps (frames per second). My camera can do up to 120 fps 🙄. For the reference, all Hollywood movies are shot with 24 fps … But it was all very cool. I have some nice action shots I am happy with. And there was a nice sunset to boot. Nice evening. Back to my hotel to ditch the camera and off again to kill me some dinner. Found a nice restaurant on the beach playing good tunes. A few Coronas and fish tacos were all I needed. Back to work on photos and upload a blog. Who said that being an explorer was an easy job? I’ve never been so busy.

The route to the next destination, Salina Cruz, is uploaded in my GPS so I am set. It suppose to be there 36˚C tomorrow, so I want to leave @7 morning. It will be 30˚ already anyway.

And that was MY day off …
