13. road to Salina Cruz
Day 27 I really wanted to leave early today. The weather forecast calls for a hot day, especially at my destination Salina Cruz. A short day, only 250 km. There is only one way to get there along the coast. A nice and windy road. But there are no sights to see as the road is few km from the shore and also it is covered by very thick vegetation. It was really hot and by 10 a.m. the temp was 36˚C, the forecasted high for today. But it kept climbing up to 42˚C. That’s friggn too much! It took me 5 hrs to get there and I drunk 4 liters of water. In this heat my energy evaporates as quickly as water from my body.
There is a small resort town of Huatulco on my way. I used to fly there and it was my favourite destination. A small quiet resort, just an opposite to Cancun. A nice airport with very cool approach over the mountains with a steep descent by the beaches. And the airport itself is pretty modern, cute and very clean. I took few pictures and off I go again.
Nothing much to see from the road so I was happy to get to Salina Cruz. Not exactly a nice city. There is a big Naval Base here and a decent size commercial port. No problem finding my hotel and that was it for today.
I have only two more days in Mexico so I start to think about Guatemala. I communicate with the school and my appartment and it is all a go. It is around 500 km to the border from here, so I will split it in two shorter days. I think that the hottest days are behind me and it will get cooler by the day. And wet. I can deal with that.
That’s the blog for tonight. Mañana
