8. Lagunas, Rocks and Argentina
It was a long day today. I have proper tickets to see the lagoons. To be honest, this place was a little bit underwhelming. I went to see another touristy place after this, Red Rocks, on the shore of huge Salt Lake. After that, there was nobody on the road which leads to Argentina. This border crossing is closed to foreigners. I didn't see one person in 200 km. Incredible landscapes, huge valleys, nice colors. It is pretty high country, the entire road is well above 4000 m. I was riding with Oscar from Spain on his Honda. The guards at Chilean checkpoint let us go through and we continued all the way to the border. The actual border is in the middle of nowhere, the Argentinian checkpoint is further 11 km behind the line. I rode a few hundred metres behind the border into Argentina, just because I could. Then we went back the same way we came over here. All day today was 450 km on the bike and I saw few lagoons and we hiked a lot. It was busy day and I was tired at the end. It was all beautiful, though.
Looks like a fire not sure what is burning there
